We were there during off-season, so it was very quiet, which is what we wanted. 1000% loved it. There wasn't anything to dislike. The nightlife nearby was very limited, since a lot of businesses were closed for off-season, but we managed. This had nothing to do with the hotel, whatsoever."

Das Frühstück war auch vielseitig mit frischen Früchten und allerlei feinen Sachen. Das Zusatzbett war nicht so toll (Plastikbezug), doch für eine Nacht war es okay. Schade war auch, dass man nirgends etwas zu trinken kaufen konnte im Haus. Es war alles zugesperrt. "

Windows are not noise proof due to age of 1932 building even though it has been updated The building and ground are fabulous but the staff is all about you and not their cell phones!!!"

The social hour every day offered wine and a good selection of food pairings to go with the wine. The atmosphere was laid back and a refreshing break from the traditional big box facilities. Staff was awesome! Stay was great but we had to change rooms 2 days into our stay due to a booking mix up."

"Exceptional - It was our first time travelling to Nags Head. We contacted the property prior to arrival regarding our booking. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to try to accommodate our room requests. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were spacious and clean (a definite plus after many hours of travel time)! There was also a desk in each of our rooms which was helpful for our daughter who needed to complete some remote schoolwork. A delicious breakfast was included with our stay and we appreciated the attention to scheduling that the property took to ensure guest safety. Each party was assigned a specific dining time to minimize capacity. During breakfast a staff member even took the time to answer our questions about the property and its interesting and rich history. We mentioned that we had to check out very early the next day and would miss breakfast and we were given homemade muffins for our trip. A kind gesture! The grounds were beautiful with hammocks, bikes, interesting sculptures and gardens and it was a short walk from the back grounds of the building to the beach. We wish we could have stayed longer and our family would return to this property in the future as it was a great location in Nags Head that checked all the boxes for us-clean, comfortable, near the beach and a family friendly location. There isn't much we didn't like. Our bathrooms both had pedestal sinks which made it a little difficult to do hair and makeup for an event we were headed to. The office is closed in the evening unlike a traditional chain hotel. However, the staff can be contacted in the event of an emergency."

"Amazing. Will be back! - This place is phenomenal. I adored the vintage vibe and beautifully maintained grounds. I love that the rooms have small kitchenettes, the bikes and ample seating throughout the property that really let you enjoy the sun. Literally everything was gorgeous and only a stones throw to the beach. My one concern was the bedding. The bed wasn’t too bad but the pillows were so hard that I woke up with a cramp in my neck. The pillows were just not comfortable."

I wish the pool had been open, but it was too early in the season and the inspection had not yet been done. Access to the beach was easy and the beach was beautiful. The staff were incredibly helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again. Really nothing. The inn and its staff are exceptional."

"Exceptional - I loved the beach access path that I used every morning to watch the sunrise from the beach. It was an amazing experience and will miss doing that after my trip. I enjoyed the daily breakfast and social hour treats and wine; the staff were very friendly and my room was very comfortable and I had a very relaxing, deep sleep each night (except for the last night of my stay due to the family next to my room #1). Perhaps the hotel should consider booking families with small children on the first floor but not next to a solo traveler such as me who was trying to get away for rest, relaxation, restoration and peaceful sleep. But overall, I loved staying at First Colony and plan to return on my next trip to the OBX. The last night of my trip, the family next door were very noisy and loud after 9:30 pm when I was trying to get in my evening meditation on my last night at this amazing place. The family were screaming and yelling, banging things against the wall, their child screaming and crying. They finally stopped right before 11 p.m. People are so rude and inconsiderate of other travelers who are on vacation and trying to have a peaceful night, peace from their day to day lives. People who can not control their children and respect the noise rules should stay home or be charged additional fees for the inconvenience of others."

"Nags Head treat - Excellent location with dedicated walkway to the beach. Lovely and expansive grounds. Huge wraparound porches with rockers. Very comfortable room. Windows were painted shut although there were screens. And no screen door so fresh air was difficult with lights on due to potential bugs."

"Exceptional - This is my 2nd time staying here and it will continue to be my go-to stay when in Nags head. I’ve only stayed in the off season. I love the homemade breakfast. They have a to-go option because of Covid but also you could dine in if wanted at certain times for social distancing. The rooms and inn have a unique, cozy, historical charm to it. If you have an issue with noise, bring ear plugs. You can hear the traffic outside, but it makes sense because this inn was once in front of the ocean so that was ideal. Otherwise nothing. Great place."

"A wonderful time! - The facilities were great! Great view of the beach. Loved sitting out on the porches. Due to Covid guidelines, the breakfast was put in carry out boxes so it was cold. It was good but could have been better. That was due of course to the times we are in right now."

"Much needed, relaxing, safe stay in Nags Head - 1st time traveling during Covid and not sure what to expect. The First Colony Inn exceeded our expectations with cleanliness. They had the breakfast down to a science (and it was a much enjoyed hot breakfast along with great coffee), wine in the afternoons which included different appetizers. They have a library on site, no charge for their bicycles (nice bike path for use), private walkway to beach which was never crowded and a pool. We enjoyed the multiple sittings areas and the garden. We stayed in the Richard Kemme room (16) which had two doors. Enjoyed the extras--heated towel rack , jacuzzi tub, Green Mountain coffee, porch swings. Also, hand sanitizer, masks and social distancing was commonplace and much appreciated. Thank you First Colony Inn for providing us with peace of mind during these challenging times. Absolutely nothing. All 6 nights were great!"

"A beautifully maintained B&B - My family truly enjoyed the clean, conveniently located B&B. We stayed for one full week. The hot breakfast was awesome. Every morning, the breakfast provided was different from the previous morning’s breakfast and really delicious. The staff members were all very professional and they were doing an excellent job keeping the facilities sanitized during the COVID-19 pandemic . It also has its own private entrance to a beautiful beach and there is a very nice pool on the property. It’s close to the National Shoreline and the other attractions in OBX are only a short drive away. We loved it! Everything was perfect"

"The colony Inn is beautiful however the help was not Informative or professional. - I love the Inn it was very clean and really enjoyed the pool because it was too hot at the Beach. The Attendant at the front desk. Who was very vague and did not even explain anything about the Colony Inn did not go out of her way at all to accommodate us. She was not helpful she did not market the place at all.we were confused about breakfast she did not Take the time to explain how they were serving breakfast during Covid. In the morning walked into the breakfast area. I was trying to figure out how they were serving breakfast and she quickly said you cannot be here while we’re making breakfast And did not explain or take any time to help me very disappointed."

"I wish I had spent more than one night. It was quaint and quiet, which is exactly what I wanted. - The room is spacious and bright with open windows in a corner room facing west. I enjoyed using the swings on the patio to watch the sunset. The room was exceptionally clean. For a visit in off-season, it was still busy, yet cozy. Because of the older building, there is exposed pipes. It's not an issue unless you're interested in something modern. I had trouble getting the television to work, but was able to restart the modem and get it working. Also, the breakfast nook is quite crowded. Be sure to get there early. The breakfast served wasn't my taste, but the other guests seemed to enjoy it."
